Heerlijk om dan lekker in de vrije natuur aan het werk te gaan. Heeft iedereen wel door hoe lekker dat is ? En gezond ? Bij welk werk vind je dat ? Na de koffie en de krentenwegge op weg naar de werkplek. En dan gewapend met zaag de aanval openen op al dat hout, dat al zo lang toe is aan een flinke onderhoudsbeurt. Wat onderhoud betreft is een houtwal of houtsingel sterk afhankelijk van menselijke activiteit. Eikenhout bijvoorbeeld werd vroeger om de tien, vijftien jaar afgezet. Halverwege de 19e eeuw was drie kwart van het Nederlandse eikenbos <a href=\"http:\/\/hetreestdal.nl\/?p=4557\">hakhout<\/a>. Na het afzetten van het eikenhout liepen de stronken gewoon weer uit.<\/p>\n<p>Deze houtwal bestaat niet alleen uit eik. We zien ook berk, krent, vuilboom en zwarte els. En veel\u00a0dood hout. We laten de grote bomen nog even staan. Die gaan de volgende keer om. Maar dan met de trekzaag, Aan het eind van de morgen zijn de eerste vijftig, zestig meters van de brede houtsingel afgezet. In het midden hebben we alle takken op de &#8220;ril&#8221;gegooid. Dit wordt een paradijsje voor roodborst, winterkoning en heggemus. Klein wild vindt er beschutting.
